A study done by Missouri University shows that the social networking site, Twitter, could be harmful to many romantic relationships.  The study found that many users could end up engaging in “Twitter-related conflicts” which could lead to negative outcomes such as emotional and physical cheating, breakups, and divorce.

The study involved close to 600 Twitter users of all ages.   Russell Clayton, the primary researcher, found an association between a user’s amount of Twitter activity and the amount of their “Twitter-related conflicts.”  Interestingly, Clayton found that duration of user’s relationships had no effect on the amount of conflicts and negative relationship outcomes, thus partners who were involved in new relationships dealt with a similar amount of “Twitter-related conflicts” as those in long-term relationships.

Since high amounts of Twitter activity was the most significant link to high amounts of conflicts and the negative relationship outcomes, the researchers recommend that users limit their amount of time spent on the site.

Unfortunately, not all of these problems can be solved on your own.  If you want to speak to an accomplished and knowledgeable divorce attorney, contact the law offices of Jay D. Raxenberg for a complementary consultation!
